Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Presents PAC-PAD 1


Pakistan’s military has introduced a new home-built tablet called the PACPAD 1 , an Android-powered device being offered for approximately US$200. Built by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, who put the PAC in the name, the device uses Chinese hardware and Android 2.3.


Price: PKR 15,500
The device features a 1GHz ARM 11 processor, 256MB of RAM, and comes with either 2, 4, 8, or 16GB of storage. It has a 7” Capacitive TFT display with a resolution of 1080 x 720.
PACPAD is being sold in limited quantities, but represents a new effort by Pakistan’s military to enter into the consumer electronics space. According to an Associated Press report, this isn’t being universally embraced within the country.
The PAC also sells a laptop called the PAC-nBOOK 1 and an e-reader called PAC-eBOOK 1. Only a few hundred of the PACPAD tablets have been built, but another batch will reportedly be complete within the next few months.

Altaf slams slanderous cases against Hamid Mir



LONDON: MQM leader Alataf Hussain Sunday, in the strongest of words, condemned the filing of a case as well as issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants against Geo News senior anchorperson and columnist Hamid Mir.MQM leader, in a statement issued here, termed it a blatant attack on the freedom of expression.He demanded of the government to step in and had all such libelous cases dismissed.Earlier, according to media reports, Quetta Judicial Magistrate-III Muhammad Ibrahim Kakar issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Hamid Mir as well as the chairman of the group and editor-in-chief of daily Jung newspaper. The court had issued Mir s arrest warrant in a case filed by a senior lawyer of Balochistan, Khalid Khan. The petitioner in his stance said that his column published on October 24, 2011, Mir had deliberately used contemptuous words against Pashtoon nationality that hurt the feeling of Pashtoon people. Besides the columnist, he had also made the editor-in-chief of the newspaper a party in the case.
